River Sagana.

River Sagana is one of the largest and most important rivers in Kenya. It is formed by numerous tributaries that originate from the slopes of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Range. From Mount Kenya, River Sagana is further strengthened by River Gura, which flows from the Aberdare ranges. River Gura is widely known for its exceptionally fast flow, contributing significantly to Sagana’s powerful and dynamic water current.

The river meanders downstream toward the Indian Ocean, supporting a wide range of economic and ecological activities along its course. In the lower regions, Sagana plays an important role in hydroelectric power generation, irrigation, and fishing, making it a vital resource for surrounding communities and regional development.

In terms of size, River Sagana has an average depth ranging between 5 and 10 meters and a width of approximately 10 to 15 meters, depending on seasonal rainfall and water levels. As the river reaches the Kirinyaga County area, it becomes particularly dramatic, forming multiple rapids, waterfalls, and turbulent sections.

These exciting natural features have made Sagana a prime destination for white-water rafting, kayaking, and other adventure tourism activities, attracting both local and international visitors seeking both thrill and natural beauty.
